Meetings This Month Will Update Public on Durham-Orange Light Rail Project

Join us for two meetings this month for the latest on the proposed Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit (D-O LRT) project.

The next meetings are:

Wednesday, March 18th         UNC Friday Center                Chapel Hill                   4-7 P.M.

Thursday, March 19th            Durham Station                     515 W. Pettigrew St.    4-7 P.M.

“These meetings will allow Triangle Transit to present to the public the information we have developed so far, as well as provide a forum for public comment on that information,” said     David King, Triangle Transit General Manager.  “The feedback we receive will influence our recommendation on the alignment, station locations, and the siting of a maintenance facility.”

The sessions will present the results of environmental studies, from the UNC Hospitals station to the Duke/VA Hospitals station.  More on the alternatives will be presented at 4:15, 5:15 and 6:15 followed by an open house where the project staff will be available to answer questions.

Other scheduled meetings on the proposed D-O LRT project this year:

Thursday, June 4th      Durham Station                               515 W. Pettigrew St.   4-7 P.M.

Saturday, June 6th      John Avery Boys and Girls Club      808 E. Pettigrew St.    2-5 P.M.

The June meetings will present data for the proposed D-O LRT project from the Ninth Street station to the proposed Alston Avenue Maintenance Facility.  Presentations take place at 4:15, 5:15 and 6:15 P.M. at Durham Station and 2:15, 3:15 and 4:15 P.M. at the John Avery Boys and Girls Club.

The Draft Environmental Impact Statement is expected to be released for public comment later this year.

The proposed Durham-Orange Light Rail Project is a 17.1 mile light rail transit line which extends from UNC (UNC Hospitals Station) to downtown Durham. The D-O LRT alignment connects a range of educational, medical, employment, and other important activity centers, park-and-ride lots, transfer centers, the Durham Amtrak Station, and Durham Station.
