GoTriangle’s Board of Trustees announced today the sale of a nearly 9-acre tract of land to the Town of Cary. The Town will build a new bus operations and maintenance center on the site in support of GoCary which, in collaboration with GoRaleigh and GoTriangle, is working to grow its services as part of a commitment to tripling existing bus service under the Wake County Transit Plan.
Though the sale itself is not directly part of the plan, it is an example of how the community’s transit organizations and multiple municipalities are already working together to foster new transit projects and services in the years ahead.
“Wake County voters’ approval of the half-cent sales tax transit referendum in November demonstrates that our community wants to see improvements to our public transportation system, and the sale of this land to build a new operations center in the Town of Cary is a significant step in the right direction,” says GoTriangle Board Chair Jennifer Robinson. “Though we are working under a ten-year-plan, collaborations like this one will allow us to deliver significant changes and improvements that positively transform residents’ transit experiences in the first few years.”
Located at 160 Towerview Court in Cary, GoCary expects to begin construction on the new operations and maintenance center in 2019, following engineering and design work.
