Bike Month Proclaimation at Town Council | May 3

  • What better way to kick-off bike month, than with an Official Proclamation from Cary’s Town Council. This year’s proclamation will also recognize Cary’s dedication to designing Complete Streets. Complete streets is the idea that streets are designed with all people in mind, regardless of their mode of transportation. Fest in the West | May 5, 10:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. | White Oak Park

  • Take a ride to the Fest in the West festival! We are partnering with East Coast Greenway for a short ride along the White Oak Creek greenway and then up to Thomas Brooks Park where you can enjoy Fest in the West. The ride will begin at White Oak Park at 10:30 A.M. For additional details on the ride, please visit ECG.

Bike to School Day | May 9 | Various schools

  • Get the kids involved this bike month during Bike to School Day on May 9th. Visit to see how your school is planning to celebrate.

Pedal Boats and Soda Floats  | May 12, 5 - 6:30 p.m. | Bond Park

  • The Town of Cary will be installing a new bike repair station at the boat house (Bond Park). If your family enjoys ice cream, soda, and time together in fresh air, this is the event for you! Start out at our build-your-own soda float buffet. Then, head out on the lake for an after-hours family pedal boat ride. Pre-registration required.

CycloFemme Ride | May 13 | TBA

  • Each year on Mother’s Day, self-led bike rides around the globe unite riders, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity or bicycle preference. Any ride length, type, and size counts, whether two friends, a team or a parade. 

Bike to Work Day Pit Stop | May 15, 7 - 9 a.m. | Downtown Cary Depot

  • Kick off National Bike to Work Week with a pit stop at the downtown Cary Depot. Chat with local planners, learn more about GoCary and their Rack and Roll Program, check out the Town's bike lockers, and pick up the latest Bike/Hike map.

Bike to Work Day | May 18, 7:30 - 9 a.m. | New Hope Church Trailhead

  • Did you know 40% of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles long? Biking to work is a great way to incorporate these short trips into your daily commute. Try it for a day, and visit us on your ride in at the New Hope Church Trailhead on the ATT from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Chat with local planners, pick up the latest Cary Bike/Hike map, and grab a breakfast snack!

Public Safety Day | May 19, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. | Downtown Cary

  • Come see us at Public Safety Day in Downtown Cary. Visit us at the Bike Cary booth, explore police and fire vehicles, meet Town of Cary Police and Fire crews and learn about Cary safety initiatives. Enjoy a kid’s fun zone, food trucks and more! Plus, we’ll have plenty of bike parking when you get there.

Ride with Town of Cary Staff and Official | June 1, 2 - 3 p.m. | White Oak Greenway

  • Join Town of Cary Staff and Officials for an afternoon ride on the White Oak Creek Greenway. The ride will begin at 2 PM through 3:30 PM from White Oak Park and then, onto Green Level. During the ride, hear from Town staff about upcoming greenway projects. The ride is just under 6 miles on all greenway trails.

  • Looking to improve to improve your confidence riding a bicycle in the street? BikeRaleigh staff will teach the League of American Bicyclists' Smart Cycling Curriculum through 3 in-class and 3 on bike classes.

Repair-A-Rama-A-Thon | May 4, 6 p.m. | Trophy on Maywood

  • We will have several bike mechanics on site repairing bikes and teaching community members how to repair and maintain their own bikes.

Kids Bike Rodeo | May 5, 11 a.m. | Marbles Kids Museum

  • This event teaches the importance of bicycle safety and will include an obstacle course, Bike Bling MakeShop, and Art on the Move. Raleigh Police Department Bike Patrol will be closing down Hargett Street for plenty of space to come and support the future bike riders of Raleigh.

7 Murals + 7 Stories | May 6, 4:30 p.m. | Oak City Cycling Project

  • Join us for a slow, Sunday afternoon ride between 7 of Raleigh's awesome murals (< 10 mile ride). We'll be starting at Oak City Cycling Project and we'll end the ride at Kings Barcade to hear some phenomenal stories on the Cycle of Life. 7 Stories, a monthly live story-telling event, asks seven people to tell seven-minute stories on a themed topic.

Bike to School Day | May 9 | Various schools

  • Bike to School Day is a national event held annually at schools and communities across the country. Bike to School Day events are a fun way to bring communities together to promote bicycle safety and encourage physical activity for elementary and middle school students.

Light Up the Night Ride | May 9, 6 p.m. | Crank Arm Brewery

  • Not a few or some, but all the lights attached to our bikes. This will show the city that we are a part of the community and that we want to be seen. This spectacle ride will also have bike lights to giveaway from the folks at BikeRaleigh.

Capital City Bike Ride | May 11, 8 - 9 a.m. | Raleigh Union Station Plaza

  • The Capital City Bike Ride is our signature kickoff event for Bike Month! Join city staff, elected officials, and fellow Raleighites for a casual morning ride through downtown Raleigh. This year we will be highlighting Raleigh Union Station and Dorothea Dix Park. After the ride, stick around for a private tour of the new Raleigh Union Station. 

Bike-In Movie | May 11, 7 p.m. | Raleigh City Farm

  • Our movie this year is BMX Bandits. This 1983 classic stars Nicole Kidman in her breakout role as a trick performing cyclist that gets caught up in a tricky situation. Before the movie, the A/V Geeks will be treating us to a compilation of very special bike-related shorts for our event. Be sharp and pay attention to the valuable films he will be showing us -- there's trivia afterwards!

Bike to the Midtown Raleigh Farmer's Market | May 12, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. | North Hills at The Commons

  • Bike out to join GoTriangle at the Midtown Farmers Market.  We will have plenty of bicycle safety informaiton and promotional items on hand.  Shop local family-farmed foods and learn about sustaibale farming methods and food systems.   

4th Annual Raleigh Cat | May 12, 12 p.m. | Spring Hill Cyclocross Course

  • This scavenger hunt race will begin with a list of cryptic clues that you and your team will have to decipher and then ride off to places unknown to maybe take a picture with or solve a puzzle in order to compete for the top prize.

CycloFemme Ride | May 13, 10 a.m. | North Carolina State Capitol

  • Meet up to honor all women who have made a difference in you life. Be it mother, sister, teacher, doctor, or stranger, we all have an impact on each other lives and this day, which also happens to be Mother’s Day, will see us ride together to celebrate that fact. The ride concludes with Tea and pastries in the lovely JC Raulston Arboretum.

Ride of Silence | May 16, 7 p.m. | Dorothea Dix Park

  • The Ride of Silence is a silent bike ride to honor those who have been injured or killed while bicycling on public roads. The ride aims to raise awareness that bicyclists have a legal right to use public streets. 

Bike to Work Pit Stop | May 18, 6:30 - 8:30 a.m. | House Creel Trail / Crabtree Creek Trail / McDonalds

  • GoTriangle will host a GoRaleigh Bike to Work Station. Stop by on your trek to work for giveaways, water, snacks, information and more.

Mud Day | May 19, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. | Walnut Creek Wetland Center

  • This is a fun and educational event for all ages. Activities will include creek walks, mud sculptures, an obstacle course, and a mud pit! Learn about vermicomposting and enviroscaping, get your hands dirty planting seeds and making mud paintings, or scoop up some spring plants at the plant sale! There will be food trucks on-site, so just bring yourself (and maybe a change of clothes!)

History Bike Tour | May 26, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. | City of Raleigh Museum

  • What better way to learn about the history of Raleigh than on a bike? Hear from the City of Raleigh Museum's Director on this ride. 

Neon Art Ride | May 26, 7 -8 p.m. | Meet in Market Plaza and ride to Dorothea Dix Park

  • Join a group of bicyclists in downtown Raleigh to ride to the "Light the Woods with Sound" show in Dorothea Dix Park. Bike lights, glow sticks, and zip ties will be available for participants, but please feel free to bedazzle your bike with lights beforehand!

League Certified Instructor Seminar | June 15 - 17 | Walnut Creek Wetland Center

  • This year you can become a League of American Bicyclists Licensed Certified Instructor in Raleigh.  Classes are the weekend of June 15.  Early registration is ending soon along with your change to snag a scholarship to cover the cost of the class.  So, sign up before May 18th to secure your space.  Scholarship applicants must live or work in Wake County.

Wake Forest

Town of Wake Forest Bike Safety Fair | May 5, 10 a.m. - 2 pm. | Wake Forest Town Hall, Brooks Street Parking Lot

  • The Bicycle Safety Fair is designed to teach safe bicycle riding skills to children ages 5 to 14 and their parents.  During the event, participants will be taught safe riding techniques through an obstacle course that re-creates real-life situations.  Plus, learn how to rack your bike on a bus to combine both bicucling and transit into a multi-modal trip.
